I distinctly recall my first notable interaction with art – I was about 4 years old, visiting a museum, and I was terrified as a bright green Picasso stared back at me, but I could not stop looking. My fear seemed to catalyze an interest in the interaction between people and the art that surrounds them. Since that moment, I have always been passionate about what I did and did not like.
As a child I did not understand the specifics that played into good design. Now, as a designer, I understand why I was captivated by certain posters, packaging design, and advertisements as a young person. I also know that people should have a reaction to art - sometimes visceral, and yes, sometimes even fearful.
